Vinyl Thief Release New Song: “Compact”


Electro-rock outfit, Vinyl Thief, have premiered Compact” off their debut LP today with All Things Go. Stream the song here: bit.ly/VCRlpO. The band’s upcoming full-length, Fathoms, follows their successful Stop Motion EP, which garnered the attention of a multitude of publications, including VICE and The Huffington Post. Fathoms is set for release on July 22nd. About the band’s new track, “Compact,” Vinyl Thief frontman, Grayson Proctor explains, “The song surprised me. I wanted to cut it from the record, but the other guys believed in it and pushed it until I could get on board.” He continues, “What I love most about this one, though, is playing it live. It feels like it explodes on stage.”

SXSW Takeover: Big Picture Media + Glamour Kills Announce Unofficial SXSW Showcases

The buzz for the last few weeks is all around South By Southwest (SXSW), which kicks off on March 7th! Rather than release information day by day, Planet Stereo is going full-on SXSW today so that you can get all of the latest news on the artists that will be floating around the event. Returning to Texas for the 7th year in a row, Big Picture Media and Glamour Kills are excited to announce the lineup of this year’s two FREE unofficial SXSW showcases, both of which will be held in the center of the action on Sixth Street–the first on Wednesday, March 12th at The Thirsty Nickel (325 E. 6th St.) from Noon-4PM, and the second on Friday, March 14th, at The Blind Pig Rooftop (317 E. 6th St.) from Noon-6PM. Featuring bands from around the world, including Australia, England, and all over the United States, the showcases are sure to please music fans across genres. Wednesday’s Thirsty Nickel Showcase will feature acts including Philly/SoCal buzz band Cheers Elephant and Houston’s pride, The Tontons, plus Carbon Tigers from Chicago, Australia’s Sydney-based Lime Cordiale, San Antonio household name Hydra Melody, Nashville-based Sol Cat, and The Trash*Pop Icons from San Francisco.

 Thursday’s Blind Pig Rooftop Showcase will feature NYC buzz bands Lily & The Parlour Tricks and NGHBRS, Hopeless Records’ Driver Friendly, and Redbull Records’ iTCH. Also taking the stage on Thursday will be two of Nashville’s finest,The Lonely Biscuits and Vinyl Thief, as well as Night Riots and Lost In Los Angeles representing LA. Austin’s own powerhouse, Quiet Company, will be rounding out the showcase, with their trademark raucous live show sure to keep everyone dancing until the very end. Vinyl Thief Release New EP + Exclusive Last.fm Performance

Stop Motion premiered in full last week on PASTE Magazine, with support pouring out from fans and critics including VICE’s NoiseyDiffuser.fm and The Deli Magazine, who coined the album “so completely, flawlessly realized…” 

The EP previews Vinyl Thief’s recently completed full-length, which is set for release this Spring. Fans can purchase Vinyl Thief’s Stop Motion EP on iTunes here and stream the EP on Spotify here.


“The inspiration behind these songs on the EP is an escape,” says Vinyl Thief’s lead vocalist, Grayson Proctor“We tend to run away from the things we don’t want to deal with. We have to really force ourselves to slow down and see the bigger picture.”

The four-song EP has only heightened the anticipation for a full-length from the band. New York Minute confidently puts it, “There upcoming full-length is going to be a work of immense weight and power.”

Vinyl Thief Premiere New Song And Announce “Stop Motion” EP



On February 4th, electro-rock outfit, Vinyl Thief, will be releasing a new EP, “Stop Motion,“- a preview to their upcoming full-length, set to release in Spring 2014. About the inspiration behind the band’s new song, “Stop Motion,” lead vocalist, Grayson Proctor, says, “‘Stop Motion’ to be honest, is really just a dialogue I had with myself one night. After losing something, I was trying to find ‘the comfort’ in the situation…struggling to.” He continues, “I needed to see the bigger picture, but could only see things on a smaller scale.” 

Vinyl Thief released their debut EP, “Rebel Hill” in 2012, and took their live show on the road shortly after, opening for the likes of The Joy Formidable, Little Green Cars, Youngblood Hawke, and Wild Cub, performing sets at festivals including CMJ and SXSW. The band played the Beautiful Buzz SXSW 2013 Showcase, earning a reputation for putting on a very well orchestrated live show.
