15 Songs From July ’15 You Have To Hear

Divides

Ah…July. The summer month of fun, independence, and, of course, thousand sun weather. But don’t panic! We’ll keep you “cool for the summer” with some of the best tracks from July that you’ve got to hear before the month ends!

1. PVRIS“Fire”

Can I just say how amazing PVRIS is? I love this band, and the new single, “Fire,” only makes me love them that much more. It’s gritty, powerful, and anthemic. Who doesn’t love a track like that?

2. Divides “Echoes Fade (ft. Chris James)”

Divides are a recent obsession for me. On “Echoes Fade,” we hear the pairing of CJ Marie and Defeat The Low’s Chris James, eliciting a nostalgic vibe reminiscent of early 2000’s rock hits, when the female-male vocal face-off was more of a guarantee than a surprise. Must hear!

3. Vance Joy“Fire & The Flood”

Beautiful song with a soft sensibility about it. When you think of a good love song, please let this be what you remember about 2015. The song picks up with ease, and becomes this alternative/folk-pop, light-hearted tune. Let’s just put it on repeat, please!

4. Knuckle Puck – “Pretense”

I’m starting to think that Knuckle Puck can do no wrong. And that it might be dangerous for me to listen to them for too long; it makes the pop-punk lover/angsty thirteen year old want to shout along to the lyrics…while at home, or, you know, on a run.

5. Nate Ruess“Great Big Storm”

You can’t deny it, Nate Ruess has some catchy vocals. I think he could start singing restaurant menus and we’d all want to join in. He’s also got a fantastic storytelling ability that should be praised.

6. State Champs – “Secrets”

The song and the video both make me want to go to a show right now. But can we just take a moment to acknowledge that pop punk is having one hell of a year? Because it really is, and State Champs are making that even more likely of turning into one hell of a erif they keep it up.

7. MC Lars“The Ballad of Hans Moleman”

The single from MC Lars’ forthcoming, The Zombie Dinosaur LP, is probably his most pop-culture-centric song yet, paying tribute to the old man from The Simpsons, referencing Artie Ziff, footballs to the groin, being mistaken for a leprechaun, and more.

8. Emarosa“I’ll Just Wait” (Reimagined)

I’ll admit it, I’m a little obsessed with this song. The piano, the vocals, just the richness of the instrumentals are enough to make any music lover melt.

9. Cassadee Pope“I Am Invincible”

The new track from pop-punk-gone-country powerhouse Cassadee Pope. It’s infectious, but also filled with so much raw talent. The vocals will just blow you away (and before you say it, yes, she does sound exactly the same live. She’s ridiculously talented).

10. Bring Me The Horizon – “Throne”

Electronic element are just kind of slipping in everywhere as of late, and BMTH’s new single, “Throne,” is no exception. It’s actually a welcome surprise from the group; it’s refreshing. I love the overall vibe of the song and how anthemic it is. Be warned, the video is super eery at times!

11. We Came As Romans – “Tear It Down”

Bitter is the word and revenge is the game. However, it’s easy to like the song. I kind of just want to listen to it at the gym during a heavy lifting session. Sounds ideal.

12. New Found Glory “Vicious Love (ft. Hayley Williams)

I sincerely love this video. It’s both funny and ridiculously cute all at once. Bonus for Hayley Williams being involved!

13. Slaves – “Burning Our Morals Away”

The lyrics on this track are incredible, and i can’t really find fault in it at all. It’s so cleverly put together. If you weren’t a Slaves listener before, you will be after this track. I don’t think you can go wrong with powerhouse vocals on a song…ever.

14. Fall Out Boy and Wiz Khalifa“Stayin’ Out All Night”

Now here’s a track I would actually want to hear in the club, because, good grief, there is some shit out there. Fall Out Boy and Wiz Khalifa work beautifully together, and for those of us who didn’t get to catch them on their Boys Of Zummer tour, this is enough to pacify that, I think.

15. Demi Lovato – “Cool For The Summer”

A new, somewhat provocative look for the songstress. The track is pretty catchy and perfect for summer.

BONUS

Drew Cayla – “King”

The APMAs Honor Rob Zombie & X, Add Performances From Pierce The Veil and DMC (RUN DMC)

apmas

The Journeys Alternative Press Music Awards, fueled by Monster Energy Drink, has added even more performers and presenters, in addition to this year’s official red carpet hosts and esteemed recipients of the Vanguard and Icon Awards. The APMAs will take place on July 22, 2015 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

The APMAs announced that they will be presenting the revered Vanguard Award to hard-rock legend and respected filmmaker Rob Zombie. As a rock icon and filmmaker with a unique vision, Zombie has continuously challenged audiences as he stretches the boundaries of both music and film, selling over 15 million albums worldwide. He is also the only artist to experience unprecedented success in both music and film as the writer/director of six feature films with a worldwide gross totaling more than $150 million.

This year’s Icon Award honorees are none other than American punk-rock mavericks X, who were one of the most influential bands to emerge from the Los Angeles punk scene of the late ‘70s. The group’s first two albums, Los Angeles and Wild Gift appear on Rolling Stone’s Top 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time list.

The APMAs also announced this year’s AXS TV Red Carpet hosts: Every Time I Die’s wisecracking frontman Keith Buckley and New Years Day’s striking frontwoman Ash Costello. The pair will interview many of this year’s stars as they make their way down the red carpet and into the main event.

Gibson Brands is also returning as one of the main sponsors of the APMAs and will be hosting the official Gibson Backstage Artist Lounge. All performers, presenters, honorees and award winners will gather at the Lounge for their post-stage victory interviews.

Paramore’s ‘Riot!’ Celebrates 8th Anniversary

paramore_2014

Paramore’s breakout record, Riot!, celebrated its eighth anniversary yesterday, June 12th. Many will remember that era of the band’s career, but few will remember it as clearly as Hayley Willams, who took to Twitter to reminisce on her favorite memories from the time. The front woman writes about her signature hairstyle, fashion choices, and even about the band’s first TRL (RIP) appearance. You can view her tweets below:

Are you feeling nostalgic? Share your Riot! memories below!

If you’ve somehow missed this gem of an album, Riot! is available on iTunes.

taylor swift

So as you may have noticed, if you follow the reigning Princess of Pop on social media, Taylor Swift has been posting awesome promotional posters, like the one above. She released multiple Sin City-esque posters, all in promotion of her new noir-style music video for “Bad Blood,” from her hit album, 1989.

The video was a star-studded event, with each celebrity having their own alter-ego:

Catastrophe (Taylor Swift), Mother Chucker (Cara Devangeline), Knockout (Karlie Kloss), Lucky Fiori (Lena Dunham), Luna (Ellen Pompeo), Frostbyte (Lily Aldridge), Cut-Throat (Zendaya), The Crimson Curse (Hayley Williams), Slay-Z (Gigi Hadid), Destructa X (Ellie Goulding), The Trinity (Hailee Steinfeld), Welvin Da Great (Kendrick Lamar), Dilemma (Serayah McNeill), Domino (Jessica Alba), Homeslice (Angel Martha Hunt), Justice (Mariska Hargitay), Headmistress (Cindy Crawford), and Arsyn (Selena Gomez).

Hayley Williams and Gerard Way Defend Frances Bean Cobain

Frances Bean

At the premiere of the new Kurt Cobain documentary, Montage Of Heck, Tuesday night, Frances Bean Cobain, who normally avoids the limelight, stepped up to give an admirable speech.

“The reason I’ve been able to watch it six times is because of the film [director Brett Morgen] made,” Cobain said. “I didn’t know Kurt … He was a human being and I think that’s been lost within the romanticism and the myth of him and his story. What this movie will provide, hopefully, is a real understanding of who he was. And I feel like he’d be really proud to have this movie made about him. So I’d like to thank Brett a lot.”

However, instead of commending her speech, many tabloids decided to show more interested in the 22-year-old executive producer’s appearance at the event, leaving Cobain to respond via Twitter, saying, “Apparently, I’m not well because I dressed like morticia Addams last night and am pale? Okay media spin cycle, okay. #slownewsday.”

Many prominent figures and artists stood up for Cobain on Twitter, including Paramore front woman Hayley Williams and Gerard Way (ex-My Chemical Romance), who chimed in with a rock and roll, “F the media and the sun.”

Williams tweeted out her support for Cobain, saying, “I get psyched every time people don’t understand how I dress. It’s like they’re congratulating you for being your own! Go you.”

Hands Down: Taylor Swift and Hayley Williams Are The Best Friends Ever (ft. Chris Carrabba)

Well, I know who want to be friends with on my next birthday…Although I think wanting to be friends with Taylor Swift and Hayley Williams is only natural.

Of course, more people are green with friend-envy when they saw last night’s posts of Swift and Williams’ mutual friend, Abigail’s birthday surprise. Abigail is a huge Dashboard Confessional fan; so, for her 25th birthday, the pair decided to invite Chris Carrabba to play at her party. Watch the videos below, and be prepared to stew with a mixture of envy and adoration:

Hayley Williams Debuts Beauty Show, ‘Kiss Off!’

paramore_2014

From almost the moment she stepped on the scene, Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams has been a style icon. Not one to shy away from bold, dramatic looks, people have been dreaming of stealing her look for years, so the PopularTV.com decided to make this a little easier by making a beauty program.

Kiss Off!, their brand new video series, features the pop powerhouse with her longtime stylist Brian O’Connor. In the first episode, which you can view below, Hayley tackles the iconic look from the 1982 punk flick Ladies and Gentleman, The Fabulous Stains. You can watch the first episode HERE.

The news of the program first arrived earlier this month, when Hayley wrote on her band’s official website:

“The show is NOT a show about ‘how to get pretty’ or ‘this is how you should look!’ It’s really about encouraging people, especially young people, that perfection is not what makes beauty. Getting to know yourself through your inspirations, painting your personality across your face, and enjoying the process of self-expression… that’s what is beautiful.”

After watching the episode, Hayley’s bold, vivacious personality and quirky sense of humor shines, and we get to see the front woman’s goofier side. Be sure to check out the first episode and stay tuned for the next one!
