WARGIRL Premieres “Mess Around (Song For The Man)” Single

wargirlPolitics are everywhere. Whether it’s the current political situations unfolding in the Middle East, the Brexit in the UK, or the disastrous Presidential campaigns going on in the US, there are people talking about politics.

With a politicized pop take on things, WARGIRL boldly tackle just about any subject. Featuring Nate Willet and Matt Maust of Cold War Kids, WARGIRL is an interesting new band, relating a cheating boyfriend to a dishonest government.

The band is comprised of Willet (bass), Maust (keyboards), Erick Nieto (drums), Matt Wignall (producer), Jeff Suri (percussion), Anne Dereaux (vox), and Marika Dahlin (percussion).

PREMIERE: Bencoolen – “Nothing Left To Hide”

bencoolenWashington DC’s Bencoolen have taken the college-aged music scene by storm, and it doesn’t seem they will be stopping anytime soon! The band recently they caught the attention of festival promoters and media outlets, including USA Today, and have played as the opener for Cold War Kids and as a closer for Clarendon Day Festival in 2014. In 2015 they were named Washington DC’s best college band by staff from 9:30 Club, Sweetlife Festival, and more. Their debut album, In Color, is expected to drop on November 2nd, but until then, Planet Stereo has the key to the first single from the album, “Nothing Left To Hide.”

The band is having a release party for the single tonight at Tropicalia in DC, where they’ll be performing alongside Broke Royals.

The single, penned by Paul Gregg (vox, guitar), showcases a fantastic, rhythmic introduction, thanks to Eric Burke (bass, vox) and Kevin Mathieu (drums), and effortlessly cool vocals. Along with the brilliant addition of the saxophone (Jack Bentsen), “Nothing Left To Hide” is a show-stopper, reminiscent of AFI meets Anberlin meets Red Hot Chili Peppers. The more I listen to the track, the more I find myself enjoying it, especially with its catchy chorus that will have you singing along by the second time it comes around. Between the somewhat sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek tone of the song, and the blunt lyrics, Bencoolen let in a soulful bridge with guitar that practically sings every note, courtesy of Teddy Scott, and that’s it. The song leaves you mesmerized.

And now it’s just a case of waiting until November 2nd for In Color to arrive. Bide your time with a copy of The Bencoolen EP, which you can pick up HERE.

“Circa Survive is excited to be a part of the FMMF in Columbus, Ohio.” states Brendan Ekstrom of the band. “I was born in Columbus and I always love coming back to see what type of art is flowing from that spot.”

FMMF positions itself as the first collaborative fusion festival to incorporate music, with music inspired fashion brands as a unified live entertainment experience, under the brand mantra, “3 days, 2 loves, 1 place – Unboxed in Columbus, Ohio, Labor Day Weekend 2014.”

The festival will be assembling a premier line-up of emerging artists and national musical acts along with fashion models, designers, and retail brand names – mixing design, style, song and soul for three continuous days, celebrating the fusion of fashion and music. 250 musical acts will perform on the FMMF campus in adjacent arenas and venues, as well as playing intimate shows in many Short North “hub spots,” 300 leading vendor brands in the fashion and music industries will populate a 118,000 square foot retail presence, producing a fashion and music marketplace. A dedicated runway inside the Convention Center will showcase the blend of the two art forms. In addition to music and fashion, Nationwide Boulevard from High Street to Neil Avenue will be transformed into a streetscape of various cuisine and beverage selections; complete with gourmet food trucks, aerial zip lines, and one of North America’s largest Gondolas, towering 100 feet tall.

The indie-rock band, Carbon Tigers, are all set to arrive in Austin for South by Southwest 2014! The band released their new EP, The Wars At Home, on November 19th, 2013, mixed by Mike Watts (As Tall As Lions) and mastered by Ed Brooks (Death Cab For Cutie, Minus The Bear). The five song EP is both philosophical and narrative, going in-depth and look at self-discovery and growth before it turns dark, as well as telling stories of destruction, love, and fierce competition. To purchase the EP, please visit iTunes, here: http://bit.ly/18MmeYd.

Carbon Tigers is comprised of Chris Wienke (vocals/guitar/bass), Nick Cudone (guitar/vocals), Aaron Sweatt (bass/guitar/keys/vocals), and Darien Williams (drums/vocals). Following their 2011 release of The Dover Sessions, the band pulled a complete Houdini, heading back to the studio to work on their latest creation, The Wars At Home, which was a complete success, pushing to create a contrast between genres, beautifully illuminated by catchy hooks and excellent timing.  Written between 2012-2013 and recorded in July of 2013, producer Jonathan Alvin (Bailiff, Archie Powell and the Exports) helped the band shape the sound of the EP with vocal producer Gabe Liebowitz at Chrome Attic Studios in Crystal Lake, IL. As an extra plus, Charlie Dresser of Company of Thieves plays drums on the recordand Darien Williams of Young Man plays live with Carbon Tigers.

After facing the obstacles of having their equipment, merchandise, and van stolen, Carbon Tigers were resilient and rose to the occasion, crowd funding over $12,000 to purchase new gear. They have since then made their mark performing at the Brooklyn Vegan after party at Lollapalooza and sold out shows with Cold War Kids, Gold Motel, Further Seems Forever, Biffy Clyro, and Maps & Atlases. The upcoming year will prove to be the biggest year for Carbon Tigers as they continue to expand outside of the Midwest and share their music with new fans alike.
