Munchkin Removes Orca Whale From Sea Squirt Bath Toy Collection In Support of #OrcasLiveInOceans Campaign

munchkin orca.jpgMunchkin is all about spreading awareness on National Whale Day, and the importance of having orcas living in the ocean.

The brand has launched their #OrcasLiveInOceans initiative. After ten years of making a toy orca whale within their bath toy set, Munchkin has decided to put their principals before their profit by removing the orca from their top-selling Sea Squirt bath toy collection. Their reasoning? “Because a bathtub isn’t big enough for an orca.”

Munchkin also released a short video, which you can view below:

Did you know that at least 151 Orca whales have been captured in the wild for display in captivity since 1961? Only 23 of those 151 captures are alive today, and at least 162 Orcas have died in captivity.
Wild whales can swim up to 100 miles a day hunting and playing, which makes captivity an extremely stressful experience for whales. The emotional, mental, and physical stress that they endure weakens their immune system and makes them prone to disease and infection.
So what do you think? Do whales belong in captivity?
