When ESKA’s self-titled debut album was released in April 2015 (via Naim Edge Records), the BBC Radio 6Music tastemaker Gilles Peterson proclaimed ESKA, “the finest UK singer.” And the compliments didn’t stop there! The Zimbabwe-born, London-raised singer-songwriter received an outpouring of compliments from a multitude of publications and media outlets…and rightly so! The album took five years to make, but it was worth the wait!
Now, ESKA has been nominated for The Mercury Music Prize 2015, which the singer admitted to Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 6Music today, gave her “butterflies in the stomach,” going on to say “It is really overwhelming actually and it’s a wonderful feeling.”
ESKA first made headlines after performing at Rick Owens’ controversial Paris Fashion Week show. With her album set to drop in Europe, the singer will be making headlines performing live at Salzburg, Austria’s Jazz & The City event on the 25th of October, and at The Hague, Holland’s prestigious Crossing Border Festival on the 14th of November.
She also has plenty of UK dates coming up, including a triumphant London return within Islington Assembly Hall (27th), and a spotlight show at Norwich Arts Centre (28th). Check below for a full list of live dates!
