Just hours after Sam Smith provided the subtle-as-a-knife hint that he recorded the theme for the upcoming James Bond film, Spectre, the singer has confirmed that he will perform the latest 007 opening credits song, entitled, “Writing’s On The Wall.” The song was co-written by Smith and Jimmy Napes (“Stay With Me”), with Disclosure also tweeting that they provided “additional production” on the track.
“This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible lineup of some of my biggest musical inspirations,” Smith tweeted Tuesday morning. “I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”
Smith had denied any involvement in the Spectre theme back in July, but now, following his announcement, even posted a pre-order link to purchase his Bond theme as a CD or vinyl single, both of which are backed by an instrumental version of the track. “Writing’s on the Wall” is set to debut on September 25th.
“Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time,” Spectre producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement.
