Sugar, spice, and everything nice…The Powerpuff Girls are BACK.
A new Powerpuff Girls series will be coming to Cartoon Network in 2016 (via The Huffington Post). As of right now, it’s not certain if Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup will be facing off against familiar villains like Mojo Jojo and HIM, or if they will be up against an entirely new set. However, we do know that the trio are being voiced by a brand new cast; Amanda Leighton (The Fosters), Kristen Li and Natalie Palamides. Additionally, Tom Kenny will be returning as The Mayor. Nick Jennings (Adventure Time) and Bob Boyle (Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!) will be in charge of the behind-the-scenes action.
Some fans are against the idea of a new cast, and the decision to cast new voices actually upset the original trio, who were never asked. The original Powerpuff Girls voice actresses—Catherine Cavadini (Blossom), Tara Strong (Bubbles) and Elizabeth Daily (Buttercup)—took to social media to talk about how they were upset that they were never approached to be involved in the series’ reboot, (via The Washington Post). Specifically, Catherine and Tara, along with creator Craig McCracken (who also won’t be returning), all took to Twitter to make their displeasure known. Check out the tweets below:
Powerpuff Girls originally aired on Cartoon Network from 1998 to 2004, spanning the course of 78 action-packed episodes.
